Wednesday, November 16, 2005 A long-standing issue for many special librarians is how to work most constructively with IT in their organizations. While internet-based information products have alleviated some earlier tensions related to desk-top rollouts, other concerns remain. With neither group the primary focus of an organization, how they choose to deal with scarce people and financial resources can see turf battles for greater organizational recognition, or, conversely, allow each group to play to its strengths and see both shine. Bea and Martin share their experiences of creating and maintaining positive working relationships with IT at Deloitte & Touche and Blake, Cassels & Graydon respectively, while Tim shares his insights from the "other side" having moved into IT at the University Health Network

frustration not finding what is needed. While this program won't
necessarily make the information you need magically appear, it can help

Film Festival Reference Library, 2 Carlton Street, East Mezzanine Deadline for
registration or refunds: April 10, 2006 Join us for a remarkable evening featuring outstanding library educator, international consultant, and library association leader, Nancy Williamson. From her start as a Reference Librarian in 1950, Dr. Williamson has been plugged in to the information industry. Generations of information professionals know her from their days in the classrooms at the University of Toronto, where she was a professor (and professor emeritus) from 1965-2005. Dr. Williamson surveys the profession from 1950 to the present, highlights shifts in how we organize information and interact with technology, and explores the impact of these changes on the principles, values, fundamentals and norms of its professionals. This is an evening not to be missed! The Enoch Turner School House, Toronto’s first free school, is a unique museum experience. It is a journey back in time where one can experience first-hand the life of a working class child in 19th century Toronto. One block east of Parliament, just south of King Street East. The King 504 streetcar stops right at Trinity Street. Dinner includes Beef Bourgignon, rice, salad, and dessert (there will be a vegetarian option as well).
